A Creative Retreat on the Banks of the Buffalo River

Blairbnb comprises of two distinct riverfront homes set along the Buffalo River in Perry County, Tennessee, just an hour west of Nashville. Created as a place to step away from the pace of everyday life, it offers a slower, more intentional way to spend time, whether that means gathering with friends or disappearing into your own thoughts for a while.

The barn and the lodge each carry their own character, but together they form a cohesive experience. Guests can choose one for a more private stay or book both properties to accommodate up to eight people, making it an ideal setting for long weekends filled with good food, conversation, and the kind of laughter that only comes when no one is in a rush to be anywhere else.

The spirit of the property is rooted in its creative lineage. It was first shaped by Irish maker Sarah Souther, a confectioner and ceramics artist whose sense of color, texture, and warmth is still felt throughout. Today, that vision continues under the care of Scottish musician and poet Blair McMillan, who has built on the original foundation to create a space that feels both expressive and quietly restorative.

Art is a central part of the experience. Across the two homes, you’ll find various works, many sourced from independent Tennessee artists, including Frances Berry and Harry Underwood. The collection is eclectic but intentional, designed to give each room its own identity while supporting the wider creative community that surrounds the property.

Beyond the interiors, the landscape does much of the work. The river moves at its own pace, and with it comes a steady presence of wildlife. Turtles gather along the banks, otters occasionally pass through the current, ducks drift by in loose formation, and swifts cut across the sky overhead. It’s the kind of place where simply sitting still becomes its own form of entertainment.

At its core, Blair’s on the Buffalo is designed for those looking to trade noise for quiet, and urgency for space. It’s a retreat for creatives, couples, and small groups alike, anyone drawn to the idea of spending time somewhere that feels both considered and completely at ease.
